Bookshelf Gems You’re Sure to Enjoy

Baby Bear’s Books written by Jane Yolen, illustrated by Melissa Sweet

Published by Harcourt, Inc. Great for ages 2 - 5

Baby Bear doesn’t just love books – he celebrates them!  He knows that hearing a story when he first wakes up, one at snack time and yet another just before his nap –well, nothing’s better.  Sweet illustrations and a delightful message about books and reading make for a blue ribbon winner you can enjoy anytime you choose.

A Sea-Wishing Day written by Robert Heidbreder, illustrated by Kady MacDonald Denton  Published by Kidscan Press. Fun for ages 4 – 8

It is pure magic when a child and his dog transform a day in their urban backyard into an exhilarating ocean adventure.  Together, they encounter odorous sea monsters, sinister pirates and helpful porpoises.    A boatload of fun that might inspire your child to make a wish and sail the seas.

Do Not Open the Book written by Michaela Muntean, illustrated by Pascal Lemaitre  Published by Scholastic Press  Inspiring for ages 5 – 8

Don’t say you weren’t warned!  You really ought not to open this book.  The story has not been written yet and if the interruptions continue, it might never be complete.  The harangued author is still deciding which words to use and where to place them.  Comical situations are inspiring for young writers who may just have their own story to tell.

Spring Song and Finger Play Fun (sources unknown)

Five Little Ducks -

Five little ducks went out to play,

Over the hills and far away.

Mother Duck cried,

"Quack, quack, quack!"

But only four little ducks

Came running back.

(Repeat verse, substituting Four, Three, Two, One and None)

Then sing:

No little ducks went out to play

Over the hills and far away.

Mother Duck cried,

"Quack! Quack! Quack!"

And all the little ducks

Came running back!

Little Peter Rabbit
