          Happy New Year

Have you considered where you and your child will go in 2007?

Dr. Seuss says,

“The more that you read, the more things you will know.
The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”

I hope you and your child(ren) will go far during 2007.  I want to thank you for subscribing to the Storytime Standouts e-newsletter and wish you all the best for the coming year.

In this newsletter we are offering five printables for your use...

bullet

A Valentine’s Day sight word printable featuring words and pictures.

This can be used in a variety of ways. Some children enjoy copying words using letter tiles or magnetic letters. Alternatively, children may like to copy words onto a white board or use a pencil and paper. Older children may enjoy creating stories using these words. If you wish, you can print out two sets of words and create a memory game or print one set of words, separate the pictures from the words and make a matching game.

A ‘Humpty Dumpty’ nursery rhyme printable

Sharing nursery rhymes with your child is a great way to reinforce rhyming and rhythm as well as introduce new vocabulary. After reading a nursery rhyme, ask a beginning reader to circle the rhyming words and/or underline all the words that begin with a certain letter.  On page 2 of the PDF, a beginning reader can cut out the (rhyming) words and glue them in the right places.  Pages 3 and 4 provide an opportunity for your child to cut out the lines of the rhyme and glue them, in order, to page 3. Your child may enjoy creating his or her very own book to ‘read.’

A ‘Brushstroke Alphabet’ printable

bullet

A ‘Winter Fun’ Word Search

For older children, word searches are a good way to introduce new vocabulary and encourage your child to pay attention details

bullet

A ‘Valentine’s Fun’ Crossword Puzzle

Also intended for older children.
